Microsoft System Center implementation for College of Europe
College of Europe in Bruges called on Ferranti for the implementation of the Microsoft System Center suite within their existing IT infrastructure. They are now using the System Center Operations Manager, the System Center Configuration Manager and the System Center Data Protection Manager for monitoring, configuration and backup respectively. All this has been integrated into the College of Europe VMware virtualisation platform.
College of Europe is the most 'European' of all university institutes for European studies: The institute attracts a highly qualified pan-European faculty, and welcomes students from all over the continent. A truly European atmosphere therefore reigns on the Bruges and Natolin (Warsaw) campuses, and the institute can rely on its unique network of personal and institutional relationships that have developed within and outside the borders of Europe over the past 59 years. The academic quality and the diversity of the post-university European study programmes are renowned worldwide.
Ferranti set up a flexible and scalable environment within the existing infrastructure at the College of Europe, which was already largely based on the Microsoft platform.
Microsoft System Center Operations Manager enables the management of the Windows Serverpark (monitoring services, health check, alerting and visualisation) and long-term reporting. In addition, this management tool also ensures the monitoring of the Cisco network devices and the VMware platform (using Jalasoft).
The System Center Configuration Manager enables the roll-out of software packages and the OS, as well as software metering and asset management. The System Center Data Protection Manager was selected as the new backup and restore tool for their Windows environments and for their virtual infrastructure based on VMware.
The implementation of the full Microsoft System Center will lead to an improved availability of the infrastructure for the College of Europe. It will also be possible to offer more company-critical services to the business.
