Fedict outsources management of electronic administration infrastructure to Ferranti

Antwerp specialist responsible for implementation and maintenance
Antwerp, october 2005 – Ferranti, supplier of specialised IT solutions and –services, has received a commission to the amount of 1.3 million euro from Fedict - the Federal public service for Information and Communication Technology. Ferranti’s Managed Services business unit will install the infrastructure of the Federal government's e-government Service Desk and be in charge of managing the whole system.
Ferranti Managed Services will install an Oracle database infrastructure, as well as an application server platform and a disaster recovery environment. The business unit will also be in charge of managing the infrastructure over a three year period. This comprises backup, monitoring, management and service desk.

Earlier this year Ferranti was already commissioned by Fedict to do some smaller projects such as the service level monitoring of the e-government applications managed by Fedict.
“Strict procedures were followed for the allocation of this contract. Fedict was looking for the best price/quality ratio in terms of technical solutions and management of the service in accordance with ITIL processes. Technically, Ferranti’s offer was as good as the competition’s, but they scored better in the last aspect. The management of both the hardware and the storage division were first considered as a concept and subsequently developed as an operational division. Fedict sees this as a three year project. It will support our battery of Service Level Tools that will run in our data centres. The Service desk application is the first example of this”, says Dominique Volon, Director General for Services Management.
